Chelsea Weidmann began her formal ballet training at age twelve and showed great promise despite her late start. Three years after her first class she received a talent scholarship from Utah Regional Ballet to pursue training intensively. Shortly after leaving Utah Regional Ballet’s program, she began teaching at Utah Academy Dance Studio and was named the studio’s ballet director four years later.

In 2000, Chelsea moved to London and continued her dance training at Covent Garden’s renowned Pineapple Studios while simultaneously pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree. As part of her academic work she authored The Ballet Teacher’s Role in a Successful Beginning Pointe Class, which was published in Brigham Young University’s scholarly dance journal. She was also invited to present her findings at the university’s annual dance symposium. Chelsea has worked professionally as a dancer with C.A.V. Entertainment and as a guest artist with several regional and civic ballet companies.

Chelsea has choreographed for many different venues, including a 22-minute telling of Little Red Riding Hood, but teaching has remained her greatest passion. In 2011 she combined the two by founding Take Two, an annual mentored choreographic showcase where students have an opportunity to create and debut new works under the guidance of professional choreographers. Her piece Il Coraggio, choreographed for the inaugural performance, was voted Audience Favorite. Chelsea has served as the Ballet Mistress for Provo Civic Ballet’s Nutcracker and is a member of the National Dance Education Organization.

Additionally, she is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Primary through Level 7 & Partnering of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. In 2013 she became a partner with ABT®’s Project Plié, an initiative to support and increase racial and ethnic diversity in the ballet community. Chelsea is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts degree.
